What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Simply Church based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these Biblical doctrines.

God

There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

Psalm 90:2 "Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God."

2 Corinthians 13:14 "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all."

Mankind

Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creations.

Genesis 1:26-27 "Then God said, 'Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.'

The Fall

When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God and fracture all of creation ever since that time.

Isaiah 53:6 "We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all."

Jesus Christ

God has revealed himself to us through his son, Jesus Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God, the holy scriptures, and through all of creation itself.

Isaiah 9:6 "For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Might God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

John 3:16 "For God loved the world in this way: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."

Salvation

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. God raised him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all who follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior.  Man can never make up for his sin by self improvement or good works. That is why salvation can be found in Jesus Christ alone. Eternal Life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

Ephesians 2:8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast."

John 14:6 "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God.  He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation.  He provides the Christian with the power for living, understanding the spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right.

John 16:7 "But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you."
John 16:13 "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.  He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come."

The Church

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:27 "Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it."

Colossians 3:16 "Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs of the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts."

Acts 2:42 "And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers."

Ressurection

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.

1 Timothy 6:14-15 "..to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in His own time."

Titus 2:13 "...while we wait for the blessed hope-the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ."

Eternity

Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or
in union with God through forgiveness and salvation.  To be eternally separated from God is Hell.
To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life.  Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. Once you have accepted what Jesus did for you on the cross and received his gift of salvation, that can never be taken from you.

John 10:29 "My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand."

Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Revelation 20:15 "Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire."
